The idea is not to give the enemy something they may well like, ie
tomato ketchup, but to bombard them with horrible stuff, ie S(h*t)P
(osing)A(s)M(eat).

spam bombs, that's just plain silly... tomato ketchup sachets, in the hands of 1, 3 and 5 year olds make a far superior mess...

Because apparently we already sent over giant man-eating badgers!
I like the idea of dropping Spam instead of bombs, that way we would
dramatically reduce our defence budget. And get rid of all the Spam...

Visualhub is pretty good for doing this sort of thing. I use it all
the time to convert media to DV(there is a prepare for Final Cut
option). You have to pay for it though(from Techspansion). ([link]
). There is a free version which is mainly for ipod stuff, but I'm
not sure if it does DV

Hi Dom and Recco,

It looks as though you two have been burning the midnight oil on my
problem while I was tucked up in bed. Many thanks. I downloaded
Handbrake last night, imported the DVD into iMovie, and exported it as
a Quicktime mp4 file which should work.

I'm now wondering if ffmpegx will do anything. I think it will convert
the .vob files ino whatever format you ask for.

Sorry Rob,

They are single layer discs you have and should work in that drive
(according to the ASP output). You could try opening Applications/
Utilities/Disk Utility and then insert a disc & see what happens. You
could also try burning a disk image inside Disk Utility & sticking in
the DVD+R disc when requested. It may just be the Finder being arsey

I swear I sent a message to this thread earlier, but no sign of it
yet :)

Graham, if you use Handbrake you will end up with an mpeg4 or similar
file. It will not be close to the quality of DV PAL, or even the mpeg2
files on the disk.
Try MPEG Streamclip. It should allow you to export to DV PAL (File >

The discs are Philips 4.7Gb. Doesn't say dual layer.

I've successfully burned CDs and DVD-Rs.

And the OS seems to be rejecting the +R discs out of hand - I'm not
sure if Toast or anything else would get a chance to have a go.

This would be true had we dropped it on them instead of the nasty
things that went bang.
